This is a challenge dedicated to teams of students and young professionals to take on new innovative ideas and technical solutions to address at least one of the ten OD challenges (oceandecade.org).
The “Ocean Challenge” will be modelled as a two-stage global competition.
- In the first phase, teams will present their ideas in a written report and a video. A panel of experts from Academia and Industry, including the OES Technical Committees, will evaluate the proposals and select 5 teams for the second phase.
- The seed funding will be used to implement the proposed solution.
Representatives of the winning team will then be invited to present their solution to the OCEANS 2025 Brest conference!

Timeline:
- First Phase: written proposals and videos outlining the proposed innovative solutions. 2024/12/31
- A panel of industry and academic experts will select the top five teams to advance to the second phase. 2025/01/31
- The 5 finalists will receive seed funding to implement a portion of their proposed solution and move to the second phase
- Second Phase: implementation / building of the project, with a video and a presentation 2025/05/31
- The winners will present their work at the prestigious OCEANS 2025 Brest conference! 2025/06/16-19
